4% Discount in Tax Declarations for early submission and payment

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the headquarters of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) to review the progress in tax filing for 2025. He highlighted the improved pace of tax declarations and the positive impact of incentives offered for early submission and payment of income taxes.

Key Highlights from the Visit

  • Tax Filing Incentives: Taxpayers who finalize their declarations by April 30, 2025, can benefit from a 4% discount on their tax liability if paid in full by July 31. Discounts decrease to 3% for submissions by June 15 and 2% for those filed by July 15.

  • Payment Options: Taxes can be paid in eight monthly installments, with the first due on July 31, and subsequent payments scheduled at the end of each month until February 2026.

  • Submission Statistics: Over 1.15 million tax declarations were submitted in the first 23 days of the filing period, marking a significant increase compared to previous years—150% higher than in 2024 and 388% more than in 2023.

Enhanced Efficiency

The AADE has introduced pre-filled tax declarations for over 1.5 million taxpayers, including employees and pensioners, streamlining the process. These declarations will be automatically submitted on April 25 unless taxpayers choose to review or modify them beforehand.

Impact of Reforms

Mitsotakis emphasized that these measures reward consistency while ensuring strict adherence to deadlines without extensions. He noted that pre-filled and pre-validated declarations have increased by approximately 100,000 compared to last year due to improved coordination among public sector entities.

Future Initiatives

The AADE plans further digitization of tax processes, aiming to enhance taxpayer convenience and improve market oversight through targeted audits.
