Citizens and accountants will have 3 months strictly to file their 2024 tax declarations.
Many things have changed this year regarding the filing of the 2024 tax declarations – which has commenced- since apart from the “automation”, the deadlines and payments are also changing, while the end of extensions is on its way.
The Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finances, Haris Theocharis, also mentioned that no extension will be given for the filing of the 2024 tax declarations, and he “changed” the final date of filing.
While in 2023, tax declarations had to be submitted until June 30, deadline which was extended several times, in 2024, the initial deadline was July 31, but, as mentioned by Mr. Theocharis, it will have to be earlier and more specifically until July 26 since the first installment for those who owe money to the Public Revenue Agency must be made by July 31.
This is what Haris Theocharis said about the 2024 tax declarations:
“What we are doing this year, which I believe is a very positive gesture, is that we are extending a trusting hand to the accountants and the taxpayers who are doing their tax declarations themselves.
Namely, we are saying that we customarily (there is no relevant law) begin the tax season every year on March 31 approximately, but this year, because we had to vote for the automatic filing on behalf of the taxpayer, a significant innovation, and it took some time (it was voted last week, and it was published in the Government Gazette on Monday), the Independent Authority of Public Revenue had to wait for this vote before making the necessary adjustments.
The extra days which we took away in April, we are giving back in July. So the deadline which was set for June 30 will be extended by 25-26 days, namely the days that were taken in April.
It is our way of saying that we acknowledge our obligations. We are giving these days and are expecting the accountants and the taxpayers to fulfill their obligations to complete this process in the given timeframe because there will be no further extension. So, the last day to file your tax declarations will be July 25 and the first installment must be paid by July 31 and all 8 installments by February.”
Who does not need to do anything regarding their 2024 tax declaration?
Approximately 1 million salaried employees and retirees who have to other income this year do not need to fill in and file their declaration provided nothing has changed in their financial and property status.
The Independent Authority of Public Revenue will fill in and file their tax declaration before the end of the deadline. This category of people will be informed by email from the Independent Authority of Public Revenue that their tax declarations will be filled in and completed automatically.
Also, the declarations will include the following pre-filled amounts:
- Bank savings interest
- Taxes on interest
- Information on vehicles & residences
- Private school tuition
- Loans and card repayment
- Expenses incurred for electronic transactions.
- Separate tax declarations
If a couple files a joint tax declaration, the tax assessment is different for each. Namely, only two tax assessment acts will be issued.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the TaxisNet System will initially open for the 2024 tax declarations for physical persons and subsequently for legal persons.
